Swing Lube Scramble
Golf is classy. This isn't.
HOW WE PLAY
Play your usual scramble. Pick someone at random to spin before the first hole, or really get it going with a Shotgun Start. In 2v2, the next player on the team that lost the hole spins before the next. Take turns within each team. With one four-person team, just take turns each hole. Follow your prompt for that hole. Keep it moving and don’t wreck the course.
DRINK & SPIN Lucky you! Take a drink and spin again. Keep going until you land on a different prompt.
ADD ’EM UP Count each team once. Add up the teams’ strokes over par and subtract any strokes under. Everyone chugs together for that many seconds.
PUTT CHUG This is an absolute win. Everyone else chugs while your putts roll. Take as many putts as you want.
DRINK & SPIN Run it back, run it back! Take a drink and spin again. Keep going until you land on a different prompt.
SHOT FORE SHOT Yikes. Take a drink for every shot the others play until your team finishes the hole. Putts and teammates included.
DOUBLE HIT Hate to see it. Take two drinks after every shot you play, putts included. Even the tap-in.
DRINK & SPIN At this point, we think you get it. Take a drink and spin again. Keep going until you land on a different prompt.
HIGHBALL Go for hang time. Everyone else chugs while your first tee shot is in the air.
SHOTGUN START Group Shotgun! Right now! If you didn’t bring a can, I guess just take a shot or chug your drink. Shame on you.
Have a question?
If you spun, “you” means you, not your whole team. “Everyone else” means the other golfers in your group, teammates and opponents included. “Everyone” includes you, too. Your team still plays from its chosen ball and keeps one hole score. Playing your own ball? Use our regular Swing Lube rules.
Pick a drink size before teeing off. A sip is fine. Double Hit is twice that amount after each shot. You can skip a prompt or play with alcohol-free drinks. Stick to your limits and have a sober ride lined up.
No. Opening with Shotgun Start takes the place of the first-hole spin. In 2v2, the first hole’s result decides who spins before hole 2. With one four-person team, pick someone at random before hole 2, then take turns from there. After that, you only do Shotgun Start when someone spins it.
In 2v2, the team with the higher hole score spins next. Take turns within that team each time it spins. Break a tied hole with rock, paper, scissors, or whatever your group uses. The next player on the losing team spins. With one four-person team, just take turns each hole.
Wait until every team in your group finishes, then count one score per team. With one four-person team, that’s just one score. Use gross or net for Add ’Em Up. In 2v2, use the same scores to choose the next spinner. Gross includes penalties; net takes off your team’s handicap strokes for the hole. Par is listed on the scorecard. On a par 4, teams scoring 6 and 3 add two seconds and take one off. Everyone chugs for one second.
Your putts from the green or fringe count. The fringe is the short grass around the green. Everyone else starts chugging when you hit the putt and stops when the ball stops or drops. Repeat for each putt you play.
Yes. Putt Chug, Shot Fore Shot and Double Hit count shots and putts you actually play, whether the team uses that ball or not. Practice swings, practice putts, added penalties and gimmes don’t trigger drinks. A gimme is a putt your group counts as holed without making you play it. Add ’Em Up and the next spinner use your team’s recorded score, with penalties and gimmes included.
Putt Chug, Shot Fore Shot and Double Hit end when your team holes out or picks up. If your group uses a max score, they end when your team reaches it. That cap applies to the team’s score, not your own number of attempts. If your team picks up, use its agreed pickup score for Add ’Em Up and the next spinner. Add ’Em Up waits until every team in your group finishes.
Start when the spinner hits their first tee shot and stop the first time the ball touches the ground. Bounces don’t add time, and another tee shot doesn’t start it again.
